Gotemburgo (en sueco Göteborg ) es la segunda ciudad en importancia de Suecia, ubicada en la provincia de Västra Götaland en la costa oeste del país, en la desembocadura del rio Göta älv. Tiene una población de 500,085 habitantes (2008) y con su área metropolitana alcanza los 905,729 habitantes (diciembre de 2008) lo que la convierte en la segunda ciudad sueca en tamaño, después de la capital, Estocolmo. Su puerto es el más grande entre los países nórdicos y es el único del país que tiene sus aguas descongeladas durante todo el año. Es el lugar de tránsito de la mayor parte de las exportaciones e importaciones de Suecia.
